EV towing

Let regen carry you down the grade

A long mountain descent is where an EV tow rig shines. Regenerative braking turns the drop back into range and saves your brakes from cooking, but towing changes how you use it.

Drive the descent on regen

  • Ease off and let it hold speed Lift off the accelerator near the top and let regen (or one-pedal mode) hold your speed down the grade instead of riding the brakes. You recover energy the whole way down and arrive at the bottom with more range than you started the hill with.
  • The trailer brakes still do the heavy work Regen slows the tow vehicle, not the loaded trailer pushing on it. Keep the brake controller set correctly so the trailer brakes carry their share, and use the controller’s manual lever to settle any sway rather than stabbing the truck brakes.
