What 6,000 miles, and 12 of unmaintained washboard the truck nav sent us down, did to a 23-foot Airstream, and what the shop has to make right.

What 6,000 miles broke, and what the shop makes right
Six thousand miles is hard on a trailer. One stretch of it was harder than the rest: twelve miles of unmaintained washboard the truck navigation sent us down, the kind of road that shakes a 23-foot aluminum box like a paint mixer. We fixed most of what broke on the road. A few things we could only patch, and the air conditioning threw a code we want a real diagnosis on. So before the next trip, the Airstream goes to the dealer. Here is the honest list.
- Needs the shop
Sink retaining clip
The 12-mile washboard road
A retaining clip on the sink physically broke apart on the washboard. We held it together to finish the trip, but a clip that snapped cannot be permanently fixed on the road, so it gets a proper replacement.
- Fixed on the road
Popped rivets
Washboard road + 6,000 miles of towing vibration
Several rivets backed out over the trip, and every one of them got bucked and permanently re-set on the road, not just field-patched. We spotted one more while cleaning the rig up after the trip, and we are setting that one ourselves before it goes in, so none of the rivets are on the shop list.
- Diagnosing
Air conditioning
Sustained 100-plus-degree desert heat
The A/C struggled to keep up in the worst of the desert heat and threw an error. We want it actually diagnosed, not guessed at, before the next hot-weather tow.
- Needs the shop
Floor fastener near the bedroom
Road vibration working a fastener loose
A screw or nail is working its way up through the floor near the bedroom. Small, but the kind of thing you want set right before it finds a foot.
- Needs the shop
Passenger-side wheel well
Road vibration
The inner skin of the passenger-side wheel well is coming apart a little on the inside. Caught early; an easy fix now beats a worse one later.
The drop-off, and the pick-up to come.

The work came out of the San Diego to Chicago round trip and that one stretch of washboard. The honest accounting of the whole 6,000 miles is in the EV-towing reality check.
